Hooray! We finally got our Peace Corps invitation in the mail! Bolivia, here we come, baby! And we got fresh new job titles, too! While originally we were slated to be Health Education Volunteers, our recruiter called and said there's another very important job that needs to be done, one that most people aren't interested in, and he wondered if we might be up for it. So, we accepted the new assignment and are now proud toilet building, well-digging Basic Sanitation Volunteers. Sweeeeet!!!
We leave May 7th for DC where we will get 58 shots and fill out twice as many forms. From there we ship off to Cochabamba, Bolivia, also known as the city of eternal spring. Sounds good to me. We'll stay in Cochabamba for three months for language, culture, and job training, and then be assigned to another part of Bolivia where we will live and work for two years.
Tom has eight days left at his job, I have four. We are about to bust out of this town!!!! Over the next few weeks we'll be milking every moment for quality time with friends and family. So if you love us, and live nearby, call us. We will come play with you.
Our road trip starts in three weeks. First stop, Morehead city, NC to play with the Dolans at the beach over easter weekend. It's an annual tradition, and I'll be missing it twice in a row, but not this year bygod!
Before the trip starts we'll be packing up our house, stashing our stuff in a shed (which we need to build) and enjoying our last days on the farm by the river. There are dozens of things to be done before we leave the country. It's crazy how involved our lives are here - the credit cards, mortgages, insurance, medical appointments, subscriptions, memberships; we are tied in so many directions, attached to things that have become a part of our everyday life. You don't notice how much they've accumulated until they all have to be dealt with at once. I wonder if life in Bolivia will be simpler. I like to think it will be.
